Missing teeth: you are probably all too aware of the impact they have on your appearance, speaking voice and chewing abilities. Did you know there is a solution? The practice of Jason M. Peterson, DDS, located in both Idaho Falls, Idaho and Jackson, Wyoming, offers high-quality dental implant surgery. Here are some FAQs about dental implants:

What exactly is a dental implant?

A dental implant is an apparatus composed of a titanium screw and an artificial tooth called a crown. It’s designed as the perfect substitute for both your tooth roots and your natural tooth. The development of this surgery is one of the largest advances in dentistry in the past 40 years. An implant is very sturdy and usually lasts several years in your mouth. Crowns, bridges, complete and partial dentures are all forms of dental implants.

What is the surgery like?

Depending on your needs, you may have just one surgery, or it may need to be divided into two parts:

Phase One: Dr. Jason M. Peterson surgically implants the titanium screw into your jawbone. Depending on the strength and health of your mouth and other factors, we may be able to install the implant at the same time.

You may need a to wait for some time before your permanent dental implant can be installed. Why? One word: osseointegration. This means that the bone in your mouth needs to adapt to the titanium screw and tighten around it. We might be able to attach a temporary crown to the post to help with daily activities while you heal.

Phase Two: Dr. Jason M. Peterson will install your custom-made implant onto the post into your mouth.
